These cookies were a family favorite from my grandmother on my
dad’s side. As a kid I did not lie them that much though I would still
eat them. Once I got older I started liking them much more!
I am speculating these came from a cookbook I got when my mom passed
away. It was The Modern Family Cookbook by Meta Given, 1953.
Ingredients

| 1 | lb. | Dates pitted & chopped |
| 1/2 | cup | Water |
| 1/2 | cup | Sugar |
| 1 | cup | Nuts Chopped |
| Cookie Dough | ||
| 2 1/2 | cups | Flour |
| 1/2 | tsp | Salt |
| 1/2 | tsp | Baking Soda |
| 3/4 | cup | Butter |
| 1/2 | cup | Brown Sugar |
| 1/2 | cup | White Sugar |
| 2 | Eggs Beated | |
Steps
Preheat oven to 400F.
Cook first three ingrediants until thick stirring contantly. Let cool and add chopped nuts
Cream butter into the sugars, add soda, vanilla then eggs, then flour. Mix well Properly mix Cookie dough ingrediants, chill for 1/2 hour.
Split into 2 pieces. One at a time, roll each piece oput to a 10"x14" 1/8" thick rectangle. Spread half of the date/nut mix onto the dough. Roll up the long way and wrap in wax paper. Repeat with the second half of the dough and date/nut mix. Refrigerate the rolls until they are firm.
Slice rolls thin and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 7 mins
